The racecourse was just a few miles from campus, but despite that,
I’d never even considered going to watch the races before…

“It’ll be a lot more fun than this place is now” Noah said…

“ 100%” Tyreese agreed. “And last time we went I came home
with £150 more than I left with”.

My ears pricked up…

As you can imagine, at the end of term I was close to skint. The
money Tyreeese made on that 1 night was more than I had left in my
entire bank account…

“How did you make £150? ” I enquired…

“Backed a couple of outsiders who were showing rapidly improving
form on good-to-soft ground and they came in” Tyreese replied.

I honestly had no idea what he was talking about.

But what I did understand was that you could do more than just
“have fun” at the races. You could actually make money too. And
if success came down to studying numbers, form or any other sor t of
data, nobody was in a better position to succeed than I was…
